Business technology / Built for the work

App Development

A spreadsheet or legacy application can become the place where the whole business gets stuck. We build and modernize business software around the workflow, users and information it needs to support.

Recognize the friction?

When software no longer fits the way you work

  • Your team re-enters information between applications.
  • A legacy system is difficult to maintain or extend.
  • Off-the-shelf software leaves critical workflow gaps.
  • Reporting and approvals live outside the application where work happens.

What we work on

Applications built around your business workflows

App Development turns business requirements into working software. Custom business applications are a core capability: internal operational tools, business web applications and customer or partner portals that support real tasks. We clarify the rules, information and permissions before choosing how to build. A useful first release should solve a specific problem and give your users a practical foundation for improvement.

Applications built for the work

Shape requirements with the people doing the work. Design practical screens, permissions, workflows and reporting around their tasks, then deliver in reviewable increments.

Modernization and integration

Map the rules and data in an existing system before replacing it. Connect applications through clear interfaces and plan data migration, reconciliation and transition.

An application you can operate

Build software with deployment, documentation and future improvements in mind. We work with Angular, Directus and PostgreSQL, choosing an approach that fits the application and your business. Provide the technical guidance needed to run the software and make later changes easier to understand.

Portals, roles and operational reporting

Create customer and partner web experiences with access based on the work each role should perform. Internal tools can bring approvals, status and reporting into one workspace. Define who can view or change each record, including administrative and exception paths; hiding a screen is not an access control.

Testing and a deliberate transition

Review working increments against realistic tasks and agreed acceptance criteria. Test API integrations, error handling and data migration, then plan deployment and rollback. Responsive web experiences can support use on different screen sizes; any device-specific requirements are evaluated during discovery.

Example Projects

Billing-system modernization

For a business relying on a desktop billing system, move the workflow into a web application while preserving its business rules, validation and reporting needs.

An operations workspace

For a team reconciling multiple spreadsheets, bring job status, approvals and management reporting into one operations workspace with access suited to each role.

How we engage

From the first workflow to working software

  1. Map the existing process and agree an initial useful release.
  2. Prototype important screens and validate data and integration requirements.
  3. Build, test and review working increments with your users.
  4. Plan deployment and the transition, provide operating documentation and prioritize the next improvements.

What you take forward

Practical deliverables.

  • Requirements and acceptance criteria that describe user roles, workflows and important business rules.
  • Working software reviewed with users, with tested permissions, validation and agreed reporting features.
  • Integration and data migration documentation, including ownership of external dependencies.
  • Deployment and handoff materials, source-access arrangements and a prioritized enhancement backlog.

Client feedback

A client’s perspective.

Killer Logic took our legacy Access billing system and transformed it into a powerful, modern platform. Their expertise, responsiveness, and attention to detail made this a seamless upgrade for Averio and our clients.

Before we get started

Questions worth asking.

How is custom development different from managed IT?

Managed IT supports and maintains the everyday technology your team uses. App Development creates or modernizes software for business workflows, such as approvals, customer self-service or operational records. You may need both when new software becomes part of your daily operations.

Do we have to replace everything at once?

Not necessarily. We can assess whether a staged migration, a targeted integration or a smaller application delivers useful progress with less disruption.

Who owns the finished application?

Source ownership, source access and licensing are agreed before development begins, along with hosting and support arrangements. We discuss any third-party components and what your team will need to operate or extend the application, so the handoff is clear before delivery.

Is this the same as website design?

A marketing website explains your business and helps visitors take the next step. An application performs workflows such as approvals, customer self-service or operational recordkeeping. When you need both, we connect the public website to the application experience so visitors and users can move between them naturally.
